Accusing the BJP of propagating communalism, Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary said on Wednesday that those fighting the polls on “Jinnah, Aurangzeb, Pakistan” issues will face a major defeat in the upcoming BJP polls. Assembly in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a poll in the Kairana region of Shamli with Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav, Chaudhary said the rapprochement between their parties for the UP polls was to usher in ‘practical and positive’ change in the state.
He said that their slogan and the stakes are the same: “Ganna jitega, Jinnah haarega”, referring to western UP farmers and Pakistani founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
“Those who fight the polls on the issues of Jinnah, Aurangzeb, Pakistan will face a major defeat. The farmers, the poor and the youth will win this time,” he said. Slamming the BJP-run Center on the 2022 budget, he said the annual financial statements had “nothing” for youth, farmers and job creation.
He cited the economic study and said there was an increased reliance on MGNREGA, but the supply of work under this program has also been reduced in this budget.
“The MNREGA has played an important role in helping the poor and the workers. We have seen it during the pandemic as well. But in the 2022 budget, the MNREGA budget has been cut from 1.11 lakh crore last year to 73,000 crore this year,” the RLD leader said.
In 2018-2019, i.e. three years ago, an average of 51 man-days of work was provided under the program against the stipulated 100 days, Jayant said, adding that this has still been reduced to 44 man-days now.
“It’s a gross injustice,” he remarked.
He said the budget allocation for the “more drop per crop” program and the crop insurance program were also cut in the 2020 budget, which hurt farmers.
“They use the phrase ‘dual engine’ (BJP government both in state and in the Center) but the youths and farmers in UP are beaten by this ‘dual engine’,” he added .
The three assembly constituencies of Kairana, Shamli and Thana Bhawan in Shamli district of UP will go to the polls on February 10. The results of the elections will be announced on March 10.
