Successful evacuation in Ukraine will positively impact polls: Amit Shah

Until March 4, 16,000 citizens have been evacuated from Ukraine, Amit Shah said.

Stressing that the government has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine since January, top BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the successful evacuation of Indians from the war-hit country will have an impact positive about the current elections. .

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Shah said the government had issued an advisory as early as February 15 for Indians in Ukraine.

Russia launched its military offensive against Ukraine on February 24.

The government has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine since January, he said.

“Over 13,000 citizens have reached India and more flights are coming. This process has had a positive impact on the elections and on the people as well,” Shah said.

The government launched “Operation Ganga” for the evacuation of Indians from Ukraine.

Mr Shah said: “The government has sent Russian-speaking teams to four countries neighboring Ukraine and has also set up a control room. Until March 4, we managed to get 16,000 citizens out of Ukraine.”

With Ukrainian airspace closed since February 24 due to the ongoing Russian military offensive, Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine are being airlifted through its neighboring countries such as Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland.

The last of seven-stage polls in Uttar Pradesh will take place on March 7. The votes will be counted on March 10, along with those from Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
