Poll: Nearly 70% of Likely U.S. Voters Oppose New COVID-19 Mandates for Omicron

A new poll released this week finds just over 69% of likely US voters say no new terms or restrictions are required for the omicron variant of COVID-19 – and that includes a majority of Republicans, Democrats and self-employed.

The Trafalgar Group survey found that 31.1% of voters think new warrants are unnecessary because omicron does not pose a serious health risk and 38.3% consider warrants unnecessary regardless of virus risk.

Another 30.6% of likely voters believe omicron is a serious health risk that warrants tighter mandates and restrictions, the poll found, which was conducted for the conservative nonprofit Convention of States Action. .

“Americans have already figured out that warrants and blockades are not how we are going to beat the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States Action which advocates the transfer of federal powers to states . I have seen many times in our polls that the American people are tired of all this and ready to take charge of their lives.

He said the Senate this week recognized the political reality that Americans were rejecting vaccination warrants when the chamber passed a bill to block President Biden’s tenure plan.

Opposition to new terms or restrictions was found to be even stronger among Republicans and Independents than Democrats. The poll found that 86.5% of Republicans, 67% of Independents and 54.6% of Democrats opposed new terms.

Among probable Democratic voters, 45.5% believe there is still a serious risk of omicron that requires tighter mandates.

The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.98% at the 95% confidence level.

Trafalgar distributes survey questionnaires using a mixed methodology of live callers, integrated voice response, text messages, emails and two other proprietary digital methods that it does not share publicly. The survey of 1,084 likely voters in the 2022 general election was conducted from December 4 to 7.
