It’s something you don’t often see these days – bipartisan support at all levels.
But that’s what a slew of national polls in recent days indicate when it comes to banning Russian oil to punish Moscow for its murderous full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

Nearly two-thirds of respondents in a CBS News/YouGuv poll taken March 8-11 said they support sanctions on Russian oil and gas, even if it means paying higher fuel prices.

And that percentage rose to 77% in an ABC News/Ipsos survey that polled Americans on March 11-12.
Following a chorus of calls from Republicans and Democrats in Congress, President Biden announced last Tuesday a ban on all imports of oil, gas and other Russian energy into the United States, targeting what the president has called “the main artery” of Moscow’s economy.

This move came with the recognition that already high gas prices would soar even higher.
And they did. According to AAA, the national average for regular gasoline was $4.32 Monday morning.
The ABC News and CBS News polls were the latest, but not the only ones, to indicate strong support for oil sanctions against Moscow.
Seventy-one percent in a national poll from Quinnipiac University and 79% of respondents in a Wall Street Journal survey — both of which were published last week — backed the sanctions even though they drove prices still higher. higher at the pump.

But support for oil sanctions, whatever their effect on gas prices, doesn’t mean Americans are giving Biden a boost on the current inflation punch.
Seven in 10 polled in the ABC News poll said they disapproved of the president’s handling of gas prices. And 63% of those polled by The Wall Street Journal approved of Biden’s handling of inflation.
