While inclusivity is still a long way off for the queer community, Bengaluru-based transgender activist and author Akkai Padmashali seeks to bridge the gap. From being a pioneer in entering the institution of marriage as a transgender woman to being at the forefront of the campaign against Section 377 (consensual same-sex sexual intercourse as an “offence against nature” which is “against the order of nature), Padmashali’s journey has become an identity for the LGBTQ community. Following derogatory remarks by expelled BJP leader Nupur Sharma, the Karnataka CM said he had issued instructions to take precautionary measures. Speaking to Hubballi, he said: “A high level meeting has been held with senior police officers to take precautionary measures amid the violence in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
