Kamala Harris Must ‘Get Serious’ To Improve Weak Poll Results, WSJ Columnist Says

How can VP Kamala Harris improve on her low number of approvals? Conservative columnist Peggy Noonan made a few suggestions this week.

Noonan wrote a withered editorial in the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, where she urged the Democrat to “get serious.”

In the article aptly titled “Kamala Harris Must Get Serious,” Noonan reflected on the Vice President’s current situation.

Harris appeared “unprepared, not focused – not serious” when she visited Guatemala and Mexico in June as part of his role as White House border czar, Noonan wrote, adding that she believed the vice -President was too fond of “politics of politics” rather than any real post.

“She came from a generation of California Democrats who never even had to meet a Republican, their electoral dominance was great,” Noonan wrote. “It was too easy for them. She only had to talk Democrat, only how they thought and formed party coalitions. But half or more of the country is Conservative or Republican. She never had. to develop great political talents to speak to them too. “

Noonan has also fended off advocates for Harris who say she is under the microscope because of her gender and race.

“She doesn’t appear strong in public; she seems scattered and ill-prepared,” Noonan argued of her supporters who say strong female politicians often take him on the chin.

She also noted that prejudice is built into the game and that a “competent” politician “does not blame bigotry but beats it up.”

“The reason people watch Ms. Harris so closely is not that she is a woman of color or a prominent figure, but that she could become president at any time in the next three years,” explained Noonan.

She advised that the Vice President make herself “useful” to the President with the skills she lacked.

“To do this, Ms. Harris would have to decide to get serious, to educate herself and immerse herself, to meet party thinkers, to study her briefing books,” she wrote. “His current strategy, as far as it exists, seems to be based on his sense of his own personal charisma: delighted laughs, attempts to connect personally, to pass the zest on.”

Noonan added that Harris should also speak with “sincerity and depth” and try to be more “serious”.

“Turn your head, give America a break, turn it around,” the columnist urged in closing.

The reaction to the Twitter article was swift, mostly party-favored.

While Fox News’ Brit Hume tweeted “Peggy Noonan urges Kamala Harris to become the kind of person she is not and never has been,” a more liberal-leaning Twitterer claimed Noonan was “consistently awful. and offensive to the vice-president ”.

“Kudos to Peggy Noonan for being the 190 millionth person in US history to tell a black person to be more humble,” wrote another.
