If you want a bigger tease for what’s to come in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, the next expansion to the critically acclaimed MMORPG, you’ve got one through the newly revealed PC benchmark footage. In the last live letter from the producer, Square Enix presented the benchmark which contains clips of new areas and battles of Endwalker and has story implications for the expansion. The benchmark will be made available to PC users on July 11. You can watch it in the video below.
The reference footage shows battles between soaked beasts and Garlean Empire soldiers on a snowy field with the Warrior of Light intervening. He then takes you through the new main area of Old Sharlayan with wondering Alphinaud before meeting the Warrior of Light. Things kick off with a major battle in the ruins of Garlemald between many drenched beasts and an alliance of familiar faces like the main characters of Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the rulers of the various regions of FFXIV. You’ll then get a taste of Thavnair’s colorful new open areas as various flying mounts make their way to one of those menacing towers that appeared in the story quests in patch 5.5. The benchmark ends with a major battle against longtime villain Zenos yae Galvus with Alphinaud and Alisaie alongside the Warrior of Light, which also shows off some skills from the new Reaper and Sage jobs.
Of course, FFXIV’s benchmark footage isn’t always quite indicative of what’s going on in the story – Shadowbringers benchmark setup scenarios for just testing your PC’s capabilities rather than showing actual events. in the game. However, these are precise representations of the new regions and zones coming to Endwalker, and a look at the types of battles we could fight in the expansion.
Endwalker (aka FFXIV 6.0) will conclude FFXIV’s ongoing Hydaelyn-Zodiark story arc that has been running since game inception. A new story arc will resume after Endwalker ends.
