The Opportunity:
Next Stage has accomplished a lot in the 8 years since its inception. We have worked with over 200 non-profit organizations in the Charlotte area and recently expanded our client base to the corporate sector and beyond Charlotte. In 2021, the company released Profit & Purpose, an in-depth look at the intersection of nonprofits and the private sector. The company’s launch of its Impact for Business suite of services has resulted in significant growth for the company through private sector clients.

This year, Next Stage is launching a social learning platform called Cultivate, a reimagining of the company’s popular incubator for emerging nonprofits. The platform will live on Mighty Networks and include a variety of sponsored learning cohorts leading to the launch of a broader e-commerce model in 2023. Next Stage is looking to augment its analog consulting model with a digital platform with the potential to scale nationally.

The role:
The Digital Content and Community Manager will primarily serve as a content strategist and creator while managing multiple digital communities and channels for Next Stage’s online Cultivate platform. This role is ideal for a digital marketing expert with a passion for social good and adept at building engaged online communities. The successful candidate will be creative, organized and detail-oriented – someone who is adept at generating content, taking the voices of others and living to tell a good story – and can help write it.

This role will be the first position in what we envision becoming a full-scale digital team to manage multiple communities and strategic content development. Next Stage is looking for an autonomous and master collaborator who can help our team to design a new range of services. The ideal candidate understands the principles of e-commerce and can apply them to a long-term social learning cohort community strategy.

Partnering primarily with the company’s Director, Senior Strategist and Chief Marketing Officer, the Digital Content and Community Manager will be responsible for highly flexible and adaptable project management, translating specific information and interests to the cohort into consumable and engaging content and building an online community.

The main activities include:
Community strategic design, development and management
• Manage the Cultivate online platform, including content development, community moderation and development of Cultivate communities
• Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to identify successful community participants and understand their needs
• Drive Cultivate platform goals: define community plans, manage implementation and develop processes, documentation and communication for new cohorts
• Support the development of new Cultivate communities, including client development, strategic planning, content development, and community design and management
• Define community experiences (e.g. curriculum, engagement plans) that welcome new participants and increase participation
• Moderate comments and user-generated content
• Define key performance metrics and indicators, track and monitor progress and be able to report on progress against program goals for sustainability
Content development
• Create strong content across a range of mediums (social media, ebooks, reports, etc.). Graphic design, audio or video experience is a huge bonus
• Must be a skilled storyteller, able to adapt to different voices and channels
• Must be able to design and manage an overall content strategy and, with the right experience, possibly manage a team of content writers and contractors to achieve strategic goals
digital marketing
• Maintain a thorough understanding of digital marketing and be proficient in a number of areas of digital marketing including webinars, social media and email
• Understanding of web metrics and numerical analysis, with the ability to generate, analyze and interpret data
• Grow Next Stage audience through online lead generation, leveraging existing Next Stage webinars and workshops and expanding to new channels and audiences as needed
• Develop email and digital marketing efforts designed to move leads through the marketing funnel
• Manage Cultivate’s online presence, including social media platforms
Firm commitment
• Participate in weekly team meetings and share the progress of internal and external projects
• Engage with staff and contractors to advance client work and company-wide initiatives
• Track activity via a shared Google calendar and monitor team member activity to ensure synergy

• 5 to 8 years of experience in marketing or a related field; digital marketing experience preferred

• Demonstrated experience building online communities with proven results. Managing national communities or campaigns is a plus
• An adaptable project manager who thrives in a collaborative environment
• An agile writer with exceptional communication skills across a wide range of content mediums
• Must be a skilled storyteller, able to adopt the voices of others
• A commitment to the mission of strengthening the social good sector
