Campaigning for their respective party’s candidates in the Madhya Pradesh municipal elections on Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Leader Arvind Kejriwal and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chairman Asaduddin Owaisi, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress of having a secret pact.

In Singrauli, Mr Kejriwal used the term “framework” to accuse the BJP and Congress of a symbiotic political relationship. “It’s an endless game of Congress and the BJP taking turns to rule across the country. They don’t work. They agree to take power for five years alternately, but the people of Delhi disrupted this framework and voted the ruling PAA,” he said while addressing the crowd at a rally in support. of his party’s mayoral candidate, Rani Agrawal.

Delhi’s chief minister assured the assembly that if elected, the AAP candidates would answer civic questions and cited “fulfilled promises of free water and electricity” in the nation’s capital.

In Khandwa, Mr Owaisi also made a similar allegation, although he was more direct and personal in his attack. He accused former Chief Minister and State Congress Speaker Kamal Nath of making a pact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further accused the two of collusion during the Lok Sabha polls.

“In the [Lok Sabha] elections, the BJP won more seats in Parliament but Mr. Kamal Nath’s son won. Mr. Nath ensured that his son won at the expense of his party. Kamal Nath, you made your son win and defeated the party, can Owaisi be held responsible. You and [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi is in cahoots,” Mr Owaisi said.

Referring to the demolitions in the state, the AIMIM leader also accused the ruling BJP in the state of being drunk on power and said the use of bulldozers against the weak was not a sign of strength but cowardice.

Both the AAP and AIMIM fielded candidates in these elections in a state where politics has been largely bipolar, dominated by the two parties they accuse of colluding.
