Arewa youth insist on generational change in 2023 polls

Following a two-day interactive session of the Nigerian Youth Collective Action (NYCA), participants, speakers, panellists and delegates came to a consensus on deepening social, political and economic development of young people through the inclusion, integration and creation of opportunities for them in the presidential election of 2023.

A statement released at the end of the session signed by Director of Communications, Aliyu Muhammad Sani, said they recognized that Nigeria is a country with over 70% of its population below the age of 50, and that youth fuels enormous energy. capable of delivering sustainable prosperity to over 200 million Nigerians if harnessed well and properly targeted.

It said; “Therefore, in effectively promoting the principles of the Not Too Young to Run Act and the need to promote upward youth mobility in all spheres of leadership in our country, key decisions were made during the session.

“That as young people in the North, we strongly condemn the failure of some political parties to follow the demands of young Nigerians for a generational change of leadership and their subsequent selection of former candidates, some in their late 80s, for the next presidential election.

“Let the youth of Northern Nigeria ignore, avoid and not vote for political parties that field candidates over the age of 55 as presidential candidates.

“One of the main things causing problems in this country today is that many older people are in charge of our national affairs and are out of step with current global governance practices, hence the need for a young generation of leaders, by 2023. .

“The youth of Northern Nigeria must mobilize to support and vote for parties that field only young candidates, especially presidential candidates.”

The group claimed that the essence of the Not Too Young to Run agitation and the successful passage of the bill was to have a generational change of direction and we applaud the commitment of President Buhari’s administration. in this regard.
